Komodo is in the short list of 28 finalists for the New7wonders of the Nature. It was selected among more than 400 candidates. Anyone who would like to participate can do it by signing-up on the new7wonders web site and vote by selecting 7 out of the 28 finalists. It is also possible to vote by phone and SMS. Komodo Island is famous for its Dragons : the Varanus komodoensis a giant lezard which populate the island for about 900,000 years, is part of the Varanus family which presence in Asia is estimated at 40 millions years.
On October 31st, 2011, with some rather well-fed Komodo dragons warming themselves under the hot sun,Bernard Weber, founder and President of New7Wonders, handed over the official Komodo New7Wonders of Nature Certificate of Participation to the Head of Komodo National Park, one of the 28 Official Finalists in the New7Wonders of Nature, and Jusuf Kalla, former Vice President of Indonesia and now the New7Wonders lead champion in the country.
The vote will be concluded on Nov-11-11.
