Hikaru no Go (ヒカルの碁) is a manga and an anime about Hikaru Shindo, a boy who discovers the ancient game when he finds an old board in the attic of his grand father's house, by a rainy day. When he starts to clean the board the spirit of a past master of the game, Fujiwara-no-Sai, appears to him and this is the beginning of career of Hikaru as Go player. Thanks to the comic, Go has come into fashion again with the Japanese youth.
Fujiwara-no-Sai, was member of the court in the Heain period (his clothes are representative of this period). He was teaching the game of Go to the Emperor.
But Sai was banished from the court, accused by some envious opponent of having cheated during a match.
He was so sad of this situation, that full with regret and anger, he committed suicide. But as with all unrepented souls, Sai was unable to leave the material world... until he is able to master go, and get one step closer to "kami no itte," or god's hand.
