Geisha in Kyoto

Geiko Kyoto

Until 1868 Kyoto was the residence of the Emperor and the capital city of Japan. Kyoto's is a highspot of the Japanese culture and its inhabitants are recognized for their refinement and the city famous for its beauty. So it will not be a surprise to discover that Kyoto is considered as the home of the geisha. The Gion district at dusk is the best time to see the geishas, as this is when they are hurrying to their next appointment. But businessmen are not the only people who can dine with the geishas - you too can experience the ways of the geisha by taking a Kyoto Sights and Nights tour with Peter MacIntosh. On this tour you'll get to do a walking tour around the Gion district and you can also organise an exclusive diner with a geisha.

Peter Macintosh is a former Canadian professional soccer player, now married with a Japanese wife, and who felt in love with the Japanese culture. He established long-term relationship with people living in the 'hanamachi' -districts where courtesans and geishas live and work. He studied the Japanese language, the flower arrangement and learnt how to play the shamisen (three-string instrument). Today Peter Macintosh, organizes many services for foreign travellers. He takes visitors to famous places but also to areas unknown to outsiders. Macintosh says that foreign guests are captivated by the women's beauty and inner strength and determination. For him, geishas are truly professional artists.
